Wednesday Wonders 30
Boards of Canada, Warpaint Live, The Book of Dust, Good Luck Have Fun Don't Die, Notorious.
After a brief hiatus, the wonders are back...
1. New Boards of Canada album
There is a new Boards of Canada album. It is called Inferno. It came out on Friday and Friday was the first I had heard of it. I have no idea what is happening with my information gathering apparatus. Anyway, there is a new Boards of Canada album and every one of their releases has been a wonder.
2. Warpaint Live from the Basement
This is not new, but it is very good. If you're already a fan, you'll love it. If you're not, this is a great introduction.
3. The Book of Dust by Phillip Pullman

I finally finished The Rose Field at the weekend. The first book in the series takes place before His Dark Materials. As a return to the world it's great, but it's a pretty contained story. The Secret Commonwealth and The Rose Field, however, are set after HDM and continue Lyra's story. These are both astonishingly good, like the best parts of His Dark Materials filtered through a whole range of Tintin adventures. Pullman is clearly, and justifiably, angry about a lot of things in the world today. His great gift is that he doesn't articulate his anger, he makes you feel it through the story. If you liked His Dark Materials, I can mount a pretty strong argument that The Book of Dust is at least its equal.
4. Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die

Gore Verbinski makes Terry Gilliam's Brazil is my pitch for this one. A funny, incredibly imaginative, attack on social media and AI. One of the best films I have seen in ages and the kind of movie we'll still be talking about in 20 years.
5. Notorious

When I was looking for someone to print our T-shirts for the Crowley campaign, artist Carl Pugh recommended this print shop in Manchester. The fact that our offerings on the Call of Cthulhu campaign have now expanded to hoodies, baseball caps, polo shirts and tote bags is testament to how much I love these guys, how collaborative they are, and how good they are at what they do. If you need a run of T-shirts and you want to use real artisans running their own small business, people who will always go the extra mile, Notorious are unbeatable.
Cartoon Gravity is going to be getting a major revamp over the next few weeks. None of it will affect your subscription, or the dubious quality of the posts and newsletters, but the name of the site and some of the navigation will be different. All will be explained. Watch this space.
In the meantime, you still have time to back the crowdfund for the brand new Lovecraft Investigations: The Call of Cthulhu HERE.
