1. Jay Kelly

Jay Kelly is an old-fashioned movie made in an old-fashioned way. It's beautifully written, directed and acted. And, unusually, the "Making of Jay Kelly" documentary that Netflix has put up alongside it is fascinating - not the usual "We all had a great time", but a really thorough examination of how they made the movie, with a focus on the incredible sets that were built and the effort that went into the manufacturing of old-style physical effects. The eagle-eyed may spot Kyle Soller (Sebastian Harcourt/Obed Marsh) as the movie director in the opening scene.

2. The Missing Kayaker

I read this story at the weekend, and it's a great example of long-form true-crime journalism.

3. Skiing down Everest

Not for the faint of heart, but this video of Andrzej Bargiel climbing to the peak of Mount Everest, without supplemental oxygen, and then skiing back down to base camp, is the very definition of a wonder.

4. The New Yorker at 100

I haven't watched this yet, but if someone has made a feature-length documentary about the New Yorker, I am down with it.

5. Landscape Photographer of the Year

Some stunning images here, prompting a deeper dive into a lot of these photographers' work.
