5 Things worth your time.
I’m trying out a new idea that may just become a regular missive. Here are 5 things worth your time today:
The Best A4 Pad out there
Last week, a director friend of mine showed me the double-page spread of detailed notes he creates whenever he has to pitch on a project. The idea prompted me to search through my stationery pile for a book that would work for it and I came up with the Midori MD A4 Plain Notebook. I have got through a lot of these over the past decade or so, but hadn't used one for a while. Now this is firmly back in rotation. The pad opens flat, has perfect paper, can be equipped with a protective cover, and is the best example of the form I have ever found.

Martin Iddon - Cherry Ripe, for viola(s) and tape
Martin Iddon is a British composer with an interest in the esoteric. His latest piece incorporates recordings of number stations to haunting effect.
Inside Mercedes F1 by Matt Whyman
Whyman was embedded for a season inside the Mercedes F1 team, with unfettered access to everyone from Team Principal and drivers to engineers, strategists and social media managers. The result is a fascinating in-depth study of how the team functions. It helps if you like F1, but the book is actually more valuable as a study into how well run an organisation can be.

The Vatican Observatory Looks to the Heavens
A fascinating New Yorker piece (hopefully outside the paywall) that profiles Guy Consolmagno, the "Pope's Astronomer".

The Best Scissors Ever
I don't usually care about scissors, but these are a delight to use, not least because they have a handy mechanism that allows the tip of one of the blades to become a cutting edge; perfect for opening parcels and shrink-wrap.
